Intel’s Roadmap for 2010
As reported by hkpec, Intel’s roadmap for the coming year, 2010, was made available to mainboard makers in Taiwan.
Lots of precision information are concluded in the map, shown repacked below.
On the coming 45nm Nehalem based derivatives of Core i7 and Core i5. All technical features and set prices are clearly put.
Derived directly from Core i7 9xx, Core i 7 8xx is largely untouched, keeping almost all the premium features, 8MB L3 cache, Hyper-Threading, and Intel Turbo Boost Technology. The only technical difference is the lack of the triple channel memory controller. Core i 7 8xx is packed with dual channel controller instead.
8xx will be more energy friendly since it only carries a 95W TDP tag. Albeit that, there will be even a energy saver version pending for release in Q1 2010. With all features unchanged, the TDP is lowered to 82W. Another notable change is Turbo Boost will level up more to unleash greater power out of the beast architecture Nehalem.
With no Hyper-Threading or VT-d, Core i5 750 is introduced to the market, becoming the lowest priced Nehalem available for 2009.
Amazing it is, considering the power of the processor, four cores with eight threads Nehalem at only 82 to 95 watts, and for Core i7 860s, the CPU will level up about 1 GHz, condition permitted. That’s simply unthinkable before. A lot of headroom is there waiting for exploit by overclockers.
And about the future, CPUs with graphics core integrated. Yes, it’s coming, and it’s called Core i3, dual core, quad thread, 4MB L3 and no VT-d or Turbo Boost with a TDP tag of only 73W.
Don’t forget there is a graphics core inside Core i3, which will be a much refined version of GMA HD4500M.
Pentium is die hard. It will be refreshed to be on 45nm and Nehalem-based. Priced at only $87, 2.8GHz high frequency with integrated DDR3 memory controller running with a 3MB L3, it will be a level up the power of the whole lower end in PC market, although without Turbo Boost, VT-d and Hyper-Threading.
Future is bright! Intel will bring us even brighter products! Thanks for your great efforts, Intel!
