1. Make sure you create a password for the new user account. The article does not adequately emphasize the importance of this step.

2. WARNING: the “control userpasswords2″ step deletes the User (or XPMUser) account! You do NOT need to delete the account; you just have to delete the saved credentials for WinXP Mode. In fact, I would leave the account as-is until you have made sure everything works on the new account.

To delete the credentials: in the Windows XP Mode window’s toolbar, just click Tools and select Settings. Then click the Logon Credentials item in the list on the left, and click Delete Saved Credentials. Last, click OK and continue from the “Restart the virtual machine” step.
