Back when Windows 7 Beta was rolled out in January, there is one specific function in it that caught lots of people’s attention, that is the feedback tool, which can record users’ problems in video, compress them and send back to Microsoft for engineers’ analysis.

Later on, with all those leaked builds of Windows 7, feedback tool just vanished. Actually it was always there, but Microsoft just covered it. Now with the releasing of the second officially public test build of Windows 7, Release Candidate, many people would like to share some points with those brilliant engineers in the background, people ask for a way to communicate easily, which translate to a demand of bring back the feedback tool.

Microsoft had unveiled a way to unlock that feature by a set of specific command.

Enter “rundll32.exe FeedbackTool.dll,ShowWizard” (less the quotes) into Run dialogue or Command Prompt with administrative privilege, and the good tool will be back.

You can also set up a shortcut for easy launch.

* Note – Please be sure you have activated your copy of Windows 7 using your product key PRIOR to using the Windows Feedback Tool. To ensure proper functioning of the feedback tool you should ONLY use product keys obtained from MSDN.

And Microsoft also claims,

While our testing indicates that the Release Candidate is a very solid build we ask that you be on the lookout for any issues that might remain. When filing bugs on Windows 7 RC we request that you only report the following types of issues:

  • Issues that prevent installation or upgrade
  • Any issues that involve corruption or data loss
  • Security issues
  • Regressions from Windows Vista SP1 or Windows 7 Beta (things worked before, but do not work now)
  • Any application or device issues that would prevent you from using Windows 7 as your primary OS.
  • Reproducible crashes or hangs (issues that you cannot reproduce will be captured by CEIP Telemetry)

Well, report within the range and enjoy the tool.
