AMD Postponed 32nm Products
Weeks ago, the industry learnt about Intel’s great ahead-of-time advance in 32nm technology, which will shift Intel’s 32nm products from the original 2010 timeframe to Q4 in 2009.
While many people may expect AMD to catch up, AMD’s Damon Muzny had confirmed publicly that their 32nm products based on architecture “Bulldozer” will be postponed to 2011, which is originally slated for 2010.
CEO of AMD, Dirk Meyer, had promised, in the first half of 2008, that their 32nm products will show up in market within 2010, but now they can’t make it. Instead, words from inside AMD is they could still ship “Bulldozer” in 2010, only if their new refined architecture is built with 45nm technology.
While Intel’s is still enjoying a year’s gap in technical progress, the distance could easily be stretched to two years considering the fact Intel is ready to ship 32nm CPU late this year and AMD’s 2011 postponing plan might usually be late 2011.
