VIA: Planning 2009
Reported by notebook manufacturers, VIA is planning big refreshment to its present Nano CPU product lines, launched mid-2008, which receive wide applause and by now had grabbed about 15 percent share of netbook market.
Big success as Nano is, VIA looks to get further with Nano evolution. Nano 3000 will be introduced to market within 2009, estimated in Q3, to replace the present first gen Nano, Nano 1000. The coming Nano 3000 incorporates some micro-architecture enhancements, refined efficiency of caches, plus the support of SSE4 instruction set to tweak its performance.
Nano 3000 will also be less power hungry as the process matures even though it is still built upon 65nm technology. It will also inherit NanoBGA 2 packaging to facilitate the transition.
Nano Dual Core is also coming down the way in the second half of next year, on which VIA is counting 1 to 2 times improvement in performance.
More details on the refreshment are illustrated below.
