Microsoft had recently released their emergency patches, among which there is one for Silverlight, Microsoft’s answer to Adobe’s Flash, which is a pretty good product that has a bright future. However, the recent update for this specific MS star online software has created much trouble for users.

I keep getting a notification that I have received a update for Silverlight which is a recommended patch I should deploy. Every once in a while during all the time I keep my computer powered on, it will pop up and I will click yes, install that for me, but every time it will not succeed, ending with this.

I googled this specific issue all over the Internet and found some fragment information on it. Basicly, this is mainly because the Silverlight program is not installed properly, or test version Silverlight was not cleaned off the system.

There are numerous people suggesting to uninstall the test version Silverlight in Add/Remove Programs, Snap6

which I tried out ending like this.

Now I see why they named a test version a test version…

However, it’s not too hard to fix this. The solution is easy. If you got the same problem, you can try this, as I tried and succeeded.

Go to Microsoft, and download this utility named Windows Installer CleanUp Utility with official description here.

Run it and install, you will see all the software utilizing Windows Installer to install.

Locate Microsoft Silverlight, and click Remove. You are half done!

Go to Silverlight official website: http://www.microsoft.com/silverlight download and install the latest Silverlight program.
