@wut
"people might forget that the older QX9770 would end up costing around $500 more than the new i7 940…….

maybe remind them?"

The $999 tag posted is the 1000 unit tray cost without packaging, you can expect to see a rather large price bump when they are sold to consumers. It will likely be about the same as the QX9770, around $1500.

This new intel core i7 they said is only a 20% bump from the old processors, and if you see how much would it take to have one of those CPU? well lets see a brand new motherboard normally they will be selling it at 350$ i mean if you have a core to quad right now, would not make much of a diference to go to core i7, I just know i would wait for some good coolers come out and when the prices drop so i can overclock this corei7 to 4.0ghz now that would be better.

It will be a good processor regardless. People always seem to completely overlook the fact that this test is in the Ic7s very early life cycle. These benchmarks, impressive or not, should be taken with a grain of salt. Only the highly inexperience enthusiast, aka people like " gamerk2 " would make a comment as he did. This is an entirely new architecture so we all should know nothing about this benchmark setup was optimized to take full advantage of the CPU. Wait until it hits the retail market where you'll have your ASUS, Abit, DFI, etc X58 Boards that will really show what this CPU is capable of. It will be the same scenario the Core 2 family went through. They will just keep getting better the more they are pushed.

I cant wait to see the i7 Extreme at 3.2GHz take on the QX9770 at 3.2GHz, that would be a much better point of comparison. Right now the mid range is slightly less than yester-year's top of the line, but that is expected.

First of all, when a game drops frames because of the CPU, it doesn't mean that it is slower in any respect. It just means that it is less efficient. Furthermore games are just starting to get into being designed for two threads, let alone 4, or now with the Nehalem, 8 threads. This is a power chip. Look at WinRAR for example. it DOUBLED its decompression over the Core 2 Quad Extreme. Look at 3dMark Vantage CPU scores and Cinebench. This chip is more then powerful, its a beast. It depends on what application your applying it to. Show me a game that can take advantage of 8 separate threads and then test it. I'm sure the video card is going to be a bottleneck.

You do know that's the mid range Core I7 Nehalem, that's not the extreme edition in which the QX9770 is which is the chips used for the Skulltrail system. So your logic is a little off in which I think that your qx9650 cost more then this new Nehalem that's coming out. Even after markup.

I can't wait to get Core i7 and build a rig with it. Future proofing ;)

Superlinear scaling on Cinebench? What else does Intel have in store for AMD?

So, a cheaper Quad still beat i7 in gaming in most instances, and theres not that much seperation either way...and thats with the advantage of better use of DDR3 RAM, due to the removal of the FSB...

Thanks, but no thanks. Ill stick with my QX9650. I see no reason whatsover to upgrade if you already have a quad.

Why does Intel suck? It's beyond my comprehension. I mean, all of the fastest cores in the world now are from Intel. Not a single one is from AMD.

Intel is just in a competition with itself, between being better and much better.
