News had been surfing around Core i7, Intel’s latest heavyweight product set to release in coming weeks, on its looks, its mobo, and its test scores. However, one area that seemed always neglected in these news could never be ignored, the overclockability.

Here is the test many of you will surely want to see, a simple look into Nehalem, Core i7′s overclockability through overclocking Core i7′s lowest positioned Core i7 920.

Core i7 920, priced at $284 according to Intel’s set price, will become another Q6600, Q9300 or E8200. The least positioned will usually become the most purchased. If a Core i7 can be overclocked like a Core 2 Quad, then there is no reason we don’t buy it the moment it gets released.

Configuration:

Intel Core i7 920

MSI X58 Mobo

DDR3 1800 Memory

Western Digital WD6400AAKS

ATI Radeon X850

QPIOC QPIOC

QPIOC PI32M

 QPIOC06-2

Considering the difference in frequency, it’s the same as overclocking Q9400 all the way to 4GHz, which is never easy, or rather near impossible, but Core i7 920 can be pushed that high quite easily and with a Vcore of only 1.448v, it seems there is still much headroom to its limit.

What a Quad!

Cannot wait to have one, the most promising Quad from Intel ever!

Update: 3DMark Vantage on Core i7 at 3.33GHz
