ESET had been rolling out promotions in Asian region to attract more users. A most recent contract enabled Chinese Internet users to apply for a 180 days ESET NOD32 Anti-Virus 3.0 genuine license key to use with the specially designed installation pack.

It seems ESET had shut non-Asian IPs from activation. Activation code can only be working when you have access to a proxy server of China.  Otherwise, use the username/password sets on this page to activate the product.

The reason that installation file was named a "special" one is there includes a special file, named "essact.exe", the one with a red icon, presiding the activation of every trial version NOD32, by means that sending the essential information to ESET website in exchange of a legitimate license key.

This magical file will bring us much joy. Just follow these steps, and genuine licenses will be yours.

Attention: You have to install the official version of NOD32 first; the activation file will only work when it detected an installation of NOD32.

Step 1. You are advised to grab the latest version of NOD32 Anti-Virus 3.0 on its official website [link is here], since I believe, for antivirus, the newer, the better. You might need a user name and ID to download the files. Use this set:

Step 2. Install NOD32. When prompted for entering the user name and ID, leave them blank. You may have to manually select to configure it later.

Step 3. After the installation of NOD32, you will be notified of a lack of user information for the much needed database update. Don’t care about that.

Go here to download the special file I had grabbed out of the special installation pack, or if you want to do it yourself, go get the original full installation and separate that special magical file. Best lucks!

Step 4. Unpack the archive. Run essact.exe. Follow the first option, activate with activation code. There is actually a hidden link in the line. When you move the cursor over the "E" of "ESET", you will notice that cursor becomes a hand, and that’s where the link hides.

Click on it and you will be led to the site that gifts keys.

For now, it seems NOD32 had tighten the application for these keys by prohibiting the foreign IP from getting to the key generating site [below]. They replace it with a disclaimer kind of saying you are not eligible to use the service.

Nevertheless, the restriction is loose. You can always find a proxy server for China and all you need to do is get to this page, enter the validation number, and click the bottom button to get the activation key.

If you cannot find any, turn to this page anytime you need one. I’ll post many activation keys with which you can exchange for the legitimate license keys.

As I had tried out, the limitation is imposed only when you go to their key generating page. So if you are lucky enough and prepared enough, you will get your activation key in a second.

Don’t be irritated by these unknown unknowns. Just click the button to save the key to your clipboard or you can easily copy that, which is my recommendation.

Step 5. Go back to "essact.exe" window where we initially click away from. Enter your name, mailbox [whatever you like, seems like they don't really mail you anything], and the key just generated on last page.

Click Next.

And happy now!

The program will automatically add the essential information to NOD32, making everything right. Try update.

I came to notice if any key listed here is used for too many times, activation will get a message of code error 62, which I believe is prompting the specific key will not activate any more. However, as I tried it out, the product got activated by the key earlier is still in full function.
