I came across this problem recently when I wanted to reinstall my antivirus program, Norton 2008 Internet Security for sure, following my recent reinstallation of the operating system. Everything works fine except that Symantec’s update servers are so hard to link, let alone download any virus definition updates.

Since this is not the first time the slow Symantec update servers are under fire of blame, I wished I could find any solution for this to save really huge amount of time.

Finally I got the way to manually update Norton on Symantec’s website, which is here.

It’s very simple. Go there, download the update that suits your Norton. Then run it, which will update your Norton automatically. After that, maybe you need to give your computer a restart to make Norton work normally. That’s it.

From now on, you can rely on Norton’s LiveUpdate to keep its virus definition as latest as possible since you won’t have too much file to download with a short-time Norton LiveUpdate.
