It's my fault not having inclued an extra explanation here. You have to keep pressing FN+SHIFT while you press 1, 5, 3, 2, 4 number keys. Then you can key FN+R whenever you want, and that will definitely work on all models of DELL laptops. Yet, there is a catch, which is exactly what you had encountered. The keyboard lights will keep flashing until your next restart. It's a price to pay. The good thing is that would not lead to any failure of the whole system and it will recover the moment you restarted your computer. Sorry to hear that.
